I have partnered with Phoenix Childrens Hospital and Channel 12 News for a one
day telethon that will broadcast live from the hospital. During the event, 12
News will encourage the community to pledge their financial support to Phoenix
Children's Hospital and the many families who benefit from this amazing
hospital.
I will be assisting them by answering the phones and take pledges during the
5-7:30 am morning hours of May 7th.

Please consider going to the site and supporting the kids in the Phoenix area by pledging a couple of bucks for this event.

For more info, see this site:

Thank you and God Bless,

AND, perhaps the best news of all: Plans are almost complete ………….

Santa Phil Wentz has agreed to send us THE TRAVELING "SANTA CLAUS OATH" DISPLAY, along with the signature page so each Santa and Ms Claus who did not attend the Celebrate Santa Convention in March can sign this oath! and they too will have their names on display for your children's grand children to see their great-great grandfather was Santa! I think this is such a very special opportunity, don't miss it! The Santa Claus Oath Ceremony will be at 9:30am Saturday.

Everyone who couldn't make it to St. Augustine last year heard about how much FUN we had, so don't delay, make your reservations today! Please send me a note so I can keep a list! Thanks

Kringle Mingle: Northern Illinois PDF Print E-mail

We had our last luncheon on February 21. Unfortunately we also got 8" of snow on the evening of February 20. Understandably, many of you decided not to attempt the trip. Fortunately, about 15 people show up. I say fortunately because that meant that the newspaper (who also attended with a photographer) didn't have to print a statement that the Santa luncheon was canceled because of snow! We never would have talked our way out of that one. And the newspaper dubbed our luncheon the Kringle Mingle.

So, now it's time for Kringle Mingle 2. It will be on Saturday, June 6, at 1 PM at the Portillo's in Crystal Lake. And I promise no snow this time! I will have video from the Celebrate Santa convention and lots of photos. We made the Guinness Book of World Records; come and see why. So, for all of you who missed the convention we will do our best to get you interested in attending in 2010. More details in the next few weeks.

Please RSVP so we can get an approximate head count.

REVENGE OF THE KRINGLE PDF Print E-mail
Written by Richard Washington
Wednesday, 08 April 2009 12:56

Greetings, Santa Walter! I'd like to forward this to you in the hope that you can share this with your Santa e-News readers. "Revenge of the Kringle" is a pretty neat story; I hope after you've had the chance to read it you'll understand why it took me so long to write it.

Thanks,

Santa Richard

This is an article I had originally intended to write for the Washington Post; alas, they never got it. (Drat!) Still, I thought that a few my old fellow Santas, and a few of my never fellow Elves, might want to have a look at this one again. That said, please enjoy

"REVENGE OF THE KRINGLE."

On November 21st, 2004, the Washington Post's film critic, Stephen Hunter, wrote a mean-spirited, single-sided, anti-Santa Claus movie rant entitled "Empty Suit." In it, Mr. Hunter ascertained that the various films and television programs that have been made for much of the last century --- projects that, for various reasons, either involve or deal directly with Santa Claus --- have no meaning to a modern-day film community plagued by the twin horrors of cynicism and pessimism. Indeed, Mr. Hunter dared to describe Santa himself as "a fusion of marketing and cleverly twisted mythology." While some might agree with that assessment, I don't. In fact, I would tell you that if you were to take a look at the bigger picture, you would discover that there is far more to the history of Santa Claus as a film character than the rest of the world would even bother to realize.
